This stretch of the path blends working waterfronts with untouched wilderness, offering walkers a vivid sense of Pembrokeshire’s coastal character. From the industrial heritage of Milford Haven to the windswept peninsula around Dale, from the bird‑rich cliffs of Marloes to the golden sands of Broad Haven and the sheltered harbour at Solva, each day brings a new mood and landscape. The final approach toward St Davids feels almost spiritual, with rugged cliffs, ancient rocks, and the vast Atlantic guiding you toward Britain’s smallest city.

Itineraries

Day 1

Arrival in Pembroke

Pembroke is a small town with an imposing Norman castle and tranquil millpond. It's worth arriving early for a stroll around town and visiting the castle. There's also plenty of pubs along the long main street which is by the river.

There are trains to Pembroke from Swansea (2 hrs) and Cardiff (3 hrs 30). Plus there's an international and domestic airport in Cardiff.

Accommodation: Woodbine or the Coast House

Day 2

Pembroke to Milford Haven

A gentle introduction with estuary views and a mix of woodland and waterside paths. You'll leave Pembroke beside the castle and follow the quiet lanes and footpaths toward the Daugleddau estuary. Then its peaceful walking through wooded sections and past quiet inlets before emerging near Neyland. Continue along the Brunel Trail toward Milford Haven, finishing at the marina with its cafés and vibrant waterfront atmosphere.

Accommodation: Ty Milford Waterfront or Lord Nelson Hotel

Walk: 11.5 miles / 18.5km

Day 3

Walk Milford Haven to Dale. Transfer to Milford Haven

This is a a walking day of changing scenery, from sheltered waters to open coastline. You'll follow the coast west out of Milford Haven, passing old forts and maritime viewpoints - it's the most urban stretch of your Pembrokeshire adventure.

Continue toward Sandy Haven, crossing the tidal stepping stones if conditions allow (otherwise use the inland diversion). Approach the Dale Peninsula with wide views across the Milford Haven waterway. Finally arrive in Dale, a friendly watersports village with a relaxed coastal feel.

There is currently no accommodation in Dale so you will be transferred back to Milford Haven.

Accommodation: Ty Milford Waterfront or Lord Nelson Hotel

Walk: 10 miles / 16 km

Day 4

Transfer to Dale. Walk Dale to Marloes. Transfer to Broad Haven

This is one of the most dramatic headland walks in Pembrokeshire, featuring dramatic, high-cliff scenery, particularly along the rugged Marloes peninsula with its panoramic views of offshore islands. There's sheer cliffs, jagged rock formations like the 'Raggle Rocks', and views of Marloes Sands, a beach framed by high, steep cliffs.

You'll begin by rounding the Dale Peninsula, passing St Ann’s Head Lighthouse and enjoying sweeping Atlantic views. Then it's onto the rugged clifftops north toward Marloes, with chances to spot seals and seabirds. There's a spectacular finish to your day, as you approach Marloes Sands, one of the most striking beaches in Wales.

There's very little suitable accommodation in Marloes so you will be transferred to Broad or Little Haven.

Accommodation: Rwts or Sunset. Occasionally we might have to return to Ty Milford Waterfront.

Walk: 13 miles / 20.5 km

Day 5

Transfer to Marloes. Walk Marloes to Broad Haven

Today's a classic Pembrokeshire coastal day with big cliffs and open horizons. You'll set off walking above Marloes Sands, taking in its layered rock formations and offshore views toward Skomer Island. Continue through St Brides, a quiet cove with a sheltered church and old estate buildings. Follow the rising cliffs along St Brides Bay toward Broad Haven, a lively beach village with pubs and cafés.

Accommodation: Rwts or Sunset

Walk: 11.5 or 12.5 miles / 18 or 19.5 km (longer length if you are staying in Little Haven)

Possible extension: an additional day is recommended to visit Skomer Island in puffin season which is May to early July. You do need to book ahead.

Day 6

Walk Broad Haven to Solva

A varied and scenic day while walking along the St Brides Bay coastline. Leave Broad Haven via the clifftop path toward Little Haven, a charming fishing village tucked into a narrow cove. Climb steeply out of the village and follow a series of headlands with wide views across the bay. Pass Newgale, a huge shingle beach backed by dunes, before continuing inland and along the coast to Solva.

Accommodation: The Cambrian Inn or Victoria Inn

Walk: 11 miles / 18  km

On a rare occasion that there is not accommodation in Solva, you may overnight in St Davids. This will require a supplement for the return taxi transfers.

Day 7

Solva to Whitesands Bay. Bus or walk to St Davids

Enjoy a spectacular finale today with rugged cliffs and a sense of arrival at the impressive cathedral of St Davids. Walk out of Solva along colourful harbour terraces before climbing back to the clifftops. Follow a dramatic coastline of coves, sea stacks, and high viewpoints toward St Davids Head. Continue to Whitesands Bay, a sweeping arc of golden sand and the official end of your walking stage. You can take a local bus into St Davids or walk into the town across the fields and along a quiet road.
