The North Cornwall Coast
Cliffs, coves and Cornish character on the spectacular Atlantic Northern Coast.
Why we created this journey
This section of the South West Coast Path captures many of the elements that make coastal walking in the southwest so distinctive: dramatic headlands, hidden coves, fishing villages and a strong sense of local identity.
We created this journey for walkers who want to experience North Cornwall slowly, with time to appreciate both the landscape and the communities shaped by it.

The landscape and character of North Cornwall
North Cornwallโs coastline is shaped by the Atlantic. High cliffs, wide views and exposed headlands give the walking a sense of scale and openness, while sheltered coves and small harbours provide contrast and respite.
The geology here creates constant variation underfoot and in the landscape, and the coastline feels both powerful and intimate depending on weather and light.

Walking the route
Walking days along this section of the path are shaped by the land rather than by uniform distances. Ascents and descents are frequent, and progress is often slower than the mileage suggests.
The path is generally well waymarked, but exposure to wind and weather is part of the experience. Walking at a steady pace and allowing time for rest makes this section particularly rewarding.

Accommodation
Accommodation on this journey is in locally run B&Bs and guesthouses, chosen for their comfort, welcome and proximity to the path.
Staying in smaller places allows you to experience North Cornwallโs coastal communities from the inside, with hosts who are used to welcoming walkers and offering practical local advice.

Food and local life
North Cornwall has a strong food culture, shaped by farming, fishing and baking traditions. Evenings often centre around coastal pubs or village restaurants, while breakfasts provide a generous start to the walking day.
Food becomes part of the journey rather than an afterthought.
